There\u2019s something particularly uncomfortable about this situation: everything looks fine on paper, but something inside you knows it\u2019s not quite true.<\/span><\/p>\n

The pay is good. The position is stable. And in the current climate \u2014 with everything happening south of the border and economic uncertainty looming \u2014 leaving feels almost irresponsible.<\/span><\/p>\n

So you stay. And you wonder if it\u2019s normal to feel this way.<\/span><\/p>\n

The golden cage<\/b><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s a pattern that comes up often in coaching: brilliant, capable people who slowly fade. Not because of one big disaster. Just a lack of meaning, an invisible ceiling, a routine that no longer feeds them.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s not ingratitude. That\u2019s being human.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

So what do we do?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Before looking toward the exit \u2014 or resigning yourself to the monotony \u2014 there\u2019s a space worth exploring. Here are a few concrete starting points:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Identify what\u2019s actually missing<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Is it recognition? Intellectual challenge? A sense of impact? Autonomy? Many people leave a job looking for \u201csomething else\u201d without knowing what that is. And they often find the same emptiness somewhere new.<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Create something new where you are<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Could you propose a new project? Mentor a colleague? Take on a role in a committee? Sometimes the spark doesn\u2019t come from changing positions \u2014 it comes from shifting perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n

      1. Feed what you\u2019re passionate about outside of work<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        If work can\u2019t give you everything, it shouldn\u2019t take everything either. Picking up a personal project, a new course, or a cause you care about \u2014 it changes the energy you bring in the morning.<\/span><\/p>\n

        1. Have honest conversations<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          With your manager, with yourself, with a coach. Not to complain, but to get clear on where you stand. Sometimes one honest conversation opens doors you thought were closed.<\/span><\/p>\n

          And if there\u2019s truly nothing left to do?<\/b><\/h3>\n

          Yes, market uncertainty is real. But staying in a job that dims your light also has a cost \u2014 on your health, your creativity, your confidence.<\/span><\/p>\n

          The right question isn\u2019t \u201ccan I leave?\u201d \u2014 it\u2019s \u201c<\/span>can I afford to stay like this?<\/b>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

          Leaving a comfort zone \u2014 whether it\u2019s a job, a company, or even a home \u2014 can be one of the hardest decisions to make. Social pressure, family expectations, colleagues\u2019 opinions\u2026 all of it can drown out your own inner voice.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

          What we often forget is that we already have everything we need inside us to find the answer. Sometimes, all it takes is a little nudge to access it.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n
